I have been a Consultant Upper GI and General Surgeon for over a decade and have been based at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust since 2018. In my private practice, I focus on the management of acid reflux (including anti-reflux surgery), gallstones, and hernias.
I take a patient-centred approach to every consultation. I will take the time to listen to your concerns, explain your options clearly and work with you to choose the treatment that is right for you.
I specialise in keyhole surgery to treat reflux, hiatus hernias and gallstone disease. I also perform a wide range of abdominal wall and groin hernia repairs, using both keyhole and open techniques, as well as upper GI endoscopy. I have performed over 1,000 laparoscopic procedures, and my rate of conversion to open surgery is extremely low, which means most patients benefit from smaller incisions, less pain and a faster recovery.
I have helped introduce fluorescence-guided surgery to make gallbladder operations safer in my NHS practice. This technique helps me see the bile duct anatomy clearly during surgery. I have also helped introduce keyhole surgery to remove bile duct stones, for patients with normal anatomy and for those who have previously had obesity surgery.
Alongside my clinical work, I am Clinical Lead for Upper GI Cancer at Stockport. I was previously nominated for an ‘Inspirational Leader’ Award for my team's work in improving the care pathway for patients newly diagnosed with oesophageal and stomach cancer.
I am an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester and Secretary of the British Benign Upper GI Surgical Society (BBUGSS), reflecting my commitment to teaching, research, and raising standards of care.
