Spire Fylde Coast Hospital rated ‘Good’ overall and for its surgical services in CQC assessment

04 November 2026

Spire Fylde Coast Hospital has been rated ‘Good’ overall and for its surgical services by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following an unannounced, comprehensive assessment carried out on 9 March 2026.

The hospital achieved ‘Good’ ratings across all five key areas of inspection: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led both overall and for its surgical services.

Inspectors found that patients using the hospital's surgical services described staff as professional and said they felt well cared for by kind and compassionate teams. They also reported feeling listened to, involved in decisions about their care and well informed about their treatment and recovery.

The report highlighted the hospital's strong focus on quality and safety. Inspectors found the service demonstrated a positive and proactive learning culture, with staff and leaders committed to continually improving the quality and safety of care. Effective systems were in place to identify and manage risks, learn from incidents and share learning across teams to support continuous improvement.

Simon Orwin, Hospital Director at Spire Fylde Coast Hospital, said: "We are delighted that the CQC has recognised the quality of care delivered by our teams with a 'Good' rating overall and across all areas of the surgical services assessment. The report reflects the dedication, professionalism and compassion our colleagues show every day to ensure patients receive safe, personalised and high-quality care.”
