Professional profile

I have been a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust since 2002. I qualified from the Universities of St Andrews and Manchester and trained in Orthopaedic Surgery in the North West Region as a Lecturer in the University of Manchester, Department of Orthopaedics. Amongst my Honours I have been a Sir Harry Platt Research Fellow and Wishbone Research Fellow. I also completed a year as a Smith & Nephew Fellow in Sydney, Australia.

My specialist interests are in foot and ankle surgery, trauma and limb reconstruction and paediatric orthopaedics.

I perform about 800 operative procedures per year in the NHS and private sectors. The type of operations or conditions treated include: Hallux Valgus correction (bunion surgery), forefoot reconstruction for rheumatoid arthritis, toe deformity correction, neuroma excision, metatarsalgia surgery, fixation of foot fractures, fusion for arthritis, excision of ganglions/soft tissue/bony lesions, club foot treatment, neurological foot/ankle conditions, soft tissue/sports injuries, ingrowing toenail surgery, flat feet, high arches, heel pain. Ankle instability, achilles tendon problems, ankle arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction, ankle arthritis.

In addition to my clinical work I am The Training Programme Director for Core Surgical Training in the North West

I am an Examiner for the University of Manchester and also examine for the Intercollegiate Board of Surgery in Orthopaedics. This is the ultimate exam that all Orthopaedic Surgeons have to pass to become a Consultant.
