Mr Colin Harris
Consultant General and Laparoscopic Surgeon
I qualified from the University of Glasgow in 1991 and trained on the Glasgow surgical rotation before taking up a Registrar position in Manchester. I elected not to do a period of research, concentrating on clinical surgery which allowed me to specialise in both upper and lower gastrointestinal surgery. I was then appointed as a consultant general surgeon in 2003. Since my appointment I have further specialised in Bariatric and Hepatobiliary surgery.
I embraced minimal access (laparoscopic) surgery at an early stage and have concentrated on developing this service in all surgical specialties. I sought further training in Europe and the United States from internationally recognised experts in both Bariatric and Hepatobiliary surgery.
I am also very keen to develop robotic surgery and I currently perform robotic colorectal surgery.
I am an active member of the multidisciplinary teams for colorectal, upper gastro-intestinal, hepatobiliary and bariatric surgery ensuring the best possible care for my patients.
