My early education and medical career span across three continents with stints in Dubai and Mumbai. My early orthopaedic career included working in tertiary trauma units and completing three different orthopaedic qualifications.
North-West England has been home for the last 11 years and was also the base for both the basic surgical training as well as the higher surgical program. I completed my orthopaedic training with the Manchester orthopaedic rotation and enjoyed the opportunity to work across some of the busier hospitals such as Preston, East Lancs, Pennine Acute etc. I have been a consultant at Blackpool since September 2013.
I feel privileged to have completed the Sir John Charnley Fellowship at Wrightington Hospital, a hospital which is recognised as one of the four centres of excellence in the country for trauma and orthopaedics. The fellowship offered excellent hands on experience in complex hip and knee arthroplasty, both tackling difficult primary procedures and coming up with solutions for failing or failed replacements. The revision procedures were challenging and included dealing with infections, failed metal on metal implants, early loosening and those that had reached the end of their expected life span.
I am very keen on understanding and delivering to patient expectations and have spent considerable time on research around patient experience and the impact of orthopaedic surgery on those who live alone or suffer with anxiety or depression.

Mr Shah recognises that like most medics, especially surgeons, he would have struggled to reach this far without the wonderful support of his wife who somehow also finds time to work at Preston college.
He likes to play cricket and swims well though he hasn't ever won anything in either!
He has an older boy and a toddler girl who do their best to ensure that dad doesn't have the time for much else when he gets home.
He loves his technology and gadgets and tinkers with both until he gets them working again.
