I specialise in all aspects of Endocrinology and Diabetes, including thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, pituitary and hypogonadal disorders. I arrange and interpret diagnostic investigations and develop appropriate treatment pathways. I have extensive experience in managing diabetes and its complications, including pre‑diabetes and obesity.
I have a particular interest in patient education, complex insulin management pathways and complications of diabetes, including renal disease and neuropathy.
I trained as a physician in general (internal) medicine, diabetes and endocrinology, gaining experience in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of endocrine and metabolic conditions. My clinical practice includes a broad range of endocrinology conditions, including thyroid disease, metabolic disorders and disorders of the adrenal and pituitary glands. I also manage complex diabetes within a multidisciplinary setting, including diabetic foot disease and diabetic nephropathy.
I have over 10 years’ experience as a Consultant Endocrinologist and Diabetologist within a large university teaching hospital and also have extensive experience in general internal medicine, managing both inpatient and outpatient care.
I am Clinical Lead for Endocrinology at University Hospital South Manchester and Regional Training Programme Director (TPD) for Endocrinology in the North Western Deanery. I am also a member of the Specialist Advisory Committee in Endocrinology, representing the region.
I am actively involved in medical education and teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I am an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Manchester and Cardiff University and contribute to teaching across primary and secondary care.
I qualified from the University of Manchester in 1993 and completed my specialist training in Manchester and Liverpool. I also undertook clinical research in Liverpool, focusing on retinopathy screening, and have published extensively in this field.
I am an Associate Editor for Diabetic Medicine and a reviewer for journals including Diabetologia, The Lancet and Diabetes Care. I have over 50 peer‑reviewed publications in diabetes and endocrinology and continue to contribute to academic research and publication.
I take a holistic approach to the management of endocrine and diabetes conditions.
My clinical work includes dyslipidaemia, general internal medicine and general medical consultation in endocrinology and diabetes.
