Mr Say Aun Quah

I am a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Spire Regency Hospital and Spire Abergele Clinic, with specialist interests in the management of ocular surface and corneal conditions, corneal transplantation, routine and complex cataract surgery, refractive surgery including laser eye surgery and premium lens implants, oculoplastic surgery, and general ophthalmology.

I studied medicine at Queen’s University Belfast and graduated in 1994. In 2017, I was awarded a distinction in the Postgraduate Diploma in Cataract and Refraction Surgery from the University of Ulster.

I began my career in ophthalmology at Cheltenham General Hospital in 1997 before completing Senior House Officer training at several London hospitals, including St Thomas’ Hospital. I later moved to the North West to continue my registrar training in ophthalmology. Following this, I undertook advanced specialist training in corneal and refractive surgery, as well as oculoplastic surgery, in Liverpool. I also completed a fellowship in corneal and refractive surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.

My clinical practice focuses on helping patients with a wide range of eye conditions and treatments, particularly diseases affecting the cornea and ocular surface, cataract surgery, and refractive procedures designed to improve vision and reduce dependence on glasses. I also carry out oculoplastic surgery, which involves procedures around the eyelids and surrounding eye structures, alongside providing general ophthalmology care.

Alongside my clinical work, I have published research in peer-reviewed scientific journals and have presented scientific papers and delivered lectures internationally in both Europe and the USA.

I am an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. I have previously served as an educational lead and college tutor for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, and I am also a former council member of the Medical Contact Lens and Ocular Surface Association.
