Professional profile

Mr Khalil is a full time consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Blackpool Victoria Hospital where he is medical retina lead, providing one of the largest wet AMD services in northwest of England. He graduated from the University of the Punjab, Pakistan and started his ophthalmology training in Stirling and Falkirk Royal Infirmary and worked on senior posts in Ysbyty Gwynedd Bangor and Southport and Ormskirk NHS Hospitals. He completed his medical retina fellowship at Aintree University Hospital, Liverpool.

Mr Khalil treats DMO (diabetic macular oedema), macular oedema secondary to retinal vein occlusions and central serous retinopathy (CSCR). He provides treatment with Lucentis, Eye Lea (aflibercept), Ozurdex (Dexamethasone Implant), Jetria (Ocriplasmin). He performs photodynamic therapy (PDT) in selected cases of medical retina diseases and performs small incision cataract surgery (phakoemulsification and intraocular lens Implants) both in Blackpool Victoria Hospital and Spire Fylde Coast Hospital.

Mr Khalil practices comprehensive general ophthalmology where he treats glaucoma, cataract, ocular trauma, corneal and conjunctival, neurological diseases and uveitis. He also performs lid surgery including blepharoplasty.

He has been an examiner of Fellowship Examination of Royal College of Ophthalmologist for the past four years.

Personal Profile

Mr Khalil wanted to be an eye surgeon as a child when his father suddenly lost his sight and that gives him tremendous empathy for every patient that he sees.

He has worked in Scotland, North Wales and England and has an FRCS degree from the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland and therefore has the flexibility, adaptability and ability to mix well with all nationalities.

He speaks English, Urdu and Punjabi fluently.

Mr Khalil likes hockey, cricket, boxing and likes cycling, long walks and playing chess. He relaxes by listening to Indian and western music and watching movies with his family.
