Spire Cardiff Hospital re-accredited as a British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy Endometriosis Centre

28 March 2024

Spire Cardiff Hospital is pleased to have been re-accredited by the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE) as an Endometriosis Centre, marking a significant achievement in its commitment to providing specialised care for women with endometriosis in Wales.

Endometriosis affects an estimated 1 in 10 women in Wales, often causing debilitating pain and impacting various aspects of daily life. Recognising the urgent need growing demand for specialised care, Spire Cardiff Hospital has worked to meet strict criteria for clinical expertise, quality of facilities, and excellent patient outcomes to receive this accreditation.

Fiona Conway, Hospital Director at Spire Cardiff Hospital said: "We are delighted to receive this accreditation from the BSGE, which recognises our dedication to excellence in the diagnosis and treatment of endometriosis. Our team of specialists provide high-quality, personalised care to women across Wales who are living with endometriosis."

Patient, Amy Roberts, shares her lengthy battle with endometriosis and how receiving specialist care at Spire Cardiff Hospital has had a significant impact.

“My journey with endometriosis began at the age of 13, and over the years, it affected every aspect of my life - from severe pelvic pain to lost jobs and relationships. Despite seeking help for over two decades, I was repeatedly misdiagnosed and made to feel like my pain was imaginary. However, everything changed when I came to Spire Cardiff Hospital.

Mr Anthony Griffiths and his team provided compassionate care and thorough diagnostics, confirming my endometriosis after years of disbelief. The experience was overwhelming yet validating, as I finally felt heard and understood. Since my diagnosis with endometriosis, I have undergone four surgeries at Spire Cardiff Hospital, finally to have a total hysterectomy. My pain levels since this procedure have dramatically reduced, allowing me to reclaim aspects of my life I had once lost.

The care and support I've received have been invaluable. Every interaction with the staff at Spire Cardiff Hospital has been positive, leaving me feeling safe and supported. I am now able to enjoy activities that were once impossible, such as walking my dog, socialising with friends, and have even launched a support page for women's health on Instagram. If you are facing similar challenges do thorough research and advocate for your health, finding the right care can make all the difference”.

Spire Cardiff Hospital offers a comprehensive range of services, including advanced diagnostic techniques, minimally invasive surgical procedures, and personalised treatment plans tailored to each patient's unique needs. The hospital's multidisciplinary team of gynaecologists, surgeons and specialist nurses collaborate closely to ensure that patients receive the highest standard of care throughout their journey.
