How do I make an enquiry?
To make an enquiry simply fill in the online enquiry form, request a call back or alternatively call your nearest Spire hospital where a customer adviser will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
How do I make a booking?
Simply call your nearest hospital to make an initial appointment and/or to request a price. Alternatively fill in the online enquiry form and we will get back to you with an appointment.
How quickly can I be seen?
Most out-patient and diagnostic appointments can be seen within 24 hours of your initial enquiry.
Do I have to be insured?
No. Spire self-pay is designed for people who do not have private medical insurance, or whose insurance does not cover the treatment they need. It is a simple and manageable way to pay for private hospital treatment.
Am I still entitled to NHS care if I choose to self-fund?
Yes – If you are eligible for healthcare in the UK you will continue to be eligible, regardless of if you chose to self-fund privately.
Are all treatments and operations available if I’m a self-pay patient?
Yes. All 38 Spire Healthcare hospitals have the expertise to carry out a wide range of private operations, treatments and tests. All procedures are available to self-pay patients (following an initial consultation to determine an individual’s healthcare needs).
Can I choose my consultant?
Yes - although this will often be done in conjunction with your GP. For most self-pay treatment, you’ll need a GP referral letter to bring to your first appointment. You can use our consultant search above to view profiles of consultants working in Spire hospitals. Note that some consultants do not included their fees in Spire fixed price treatment and charge patients separately. Your local hospital will be able to explain what is available to you.
Will I see the same consultant every time?
Yes. We know that continuity of care is important, which is why we do our utmost to ensure that you're looked after by the same consultant - from your first appointment through to your treatment and follow-up care.
What happens if I’ve already seen a consultant at another hospital?
If you've already seen a consultant at an NHS or other private hospital, and the same specialist can provide one-off private treatment at a Spire hospital, we'll be happy to make all the arrangements for you. Alternatively, we can arrange treatment under a new consultant at one of our hospitals. If you are changing consultant, you may need a new referral letter from your GP.
What happens if I’m a self-pay out-patient?
Your consultant will send you a bill for the consultation and the hospital will charge you separately for any tests and treatment carried out.
What happens if I’m a self-pay in-patient?
If you are staying overnight or longer we will charge you a single all-inclusive fixed price where possible (see below for more information).
You will need to pay for your treatment in advance, however very occasionally (approximately 1% of patients) we are unable to offer treatment at an all-inclusive price due to medical circumstance. In this situation, we may offer you treatment under a self-funding agreement, where you would pay a deposit to cover the expected costs of your care. At the end of your stay, we would invoice you for any additional care and services provided above the level of your deposit, or we would refund part of your deposit if your care costs were below those expected.
If I’m a self-pay patient, will I have a private room?
Yes - If you're staying overnight, or longer, you'll have your own private room, with TV, radio, telephone, and en-suite bathroom. Every room is equipped with a nurse-call system, so you can get help at any time, day or night. If you’re having treatment as a day-case patient, you’ll probably recover in one of our comfortable day-case units.
What’s included in the fixed price?
The one-off private treatment price will include your operation or procedure, standard prosthesis (if required), consultants' fees, nursing care, accommodation, physiotherapy and medication, after-care, a follow-up appointment (if you need it) and further treatment that may arise if there are clinical complications.
The price does not include consultations and tests you may have before you come into hospital. At the time of your consultation visit, we will also be able to tell you the price for any tests that your consultant recommends.
Once you have confirmed that you wish to go ahead and have seen your chosen consultant for an initial consultation and any diagnostic tests that you may need, we will arrange a treatment date and we will ask you to pay the fixed price in full before admission.

Is the price always fixed?
We are able to give fixed prices to most of our patients, and fixed prices can be given on all treatments with the exception of Bariatric (weight loss surgery) procedures which are priced on an individual basis depending on the individual healthcare needs of our patients. Please contact your local hospital to find out more.
