  • Unannounced inspection praises leadership for safe patient care

The OrthTeam Centre has received an overall ‘Good’ rating following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) – the first since the Centre’s registration in 2019.

The CQC carried out an unannounced inspection of outpatient and diagnostic services offered at the OrthTeam Centre in June. In its report, CQC inspectors rated the services ‘Good’ for being safe, caring, responsible and well-led. CQC inspectors made particular mention that the OrthTeam Centre’s colleagues treated patients with compassion and kindness and involved patients in decision-making about their care and treatment.

Inspectors also commented positively how the Centre’s leadership engaged well with colleagues, patients and the community to plan care to meet the needs of local people, and that everyone was committed to learning and improving services continually. They also stated that people could access the services when they needed them and did not have to wait too long for treatment. It was noted that it was also easy for people to provide feedback and raise concerns if needed.

The OrthTeam Centre in Didsbury Manchester is a joint venture between Spire Healthcare and Didsbury MSK Ltd, specialising in orthopaedic and musculoskeletal problems from sports injuries to degenerative and arthritic conditions. The Centre provides outpatient consultations for orthopaedic, neurosurgery, neurology, sport and exercise medicine, pain management and peripheral nerve injuries. Full diagnostic services are also available using ultrasound, X-ray, digital X-ray and MRI scanning, as are a range of image guided injections and treatment injections.

Between June 2022 and June 2023, the Centre completed over 18,000 outpatient appointments and delivered over 6,000 MRI scans, 3,000 X-ray scans, 3,000 ultrasound scans and 700 image guided injection treatments.

Chris Peach, Managing Partner at the OrthTeam Centre, said: “Everyone at the OrthTeam Centre and Spire Healthcare are proud of the news of our ‘Good’ rating from the CQC. With the knowledge that this unannounced inspection has rated us ‘Good’ confirms our core values on patient safety; our efforts to drive clinical excellence; deliver high-quality and compassionate patient care; and be an employer of choice for outstanding colleagues. The entire team should be incredibly proud of what has been achieved here in Manchester.”

98% of Spire Healthcare’s inspected hospitals and clinics are rated ‘Good,’ ‘Outstanding’ or the equivalent by health inspectors in England, Wales and Scotland.
