Muscle pain may be eased by yoga

A yoga specialist has spoken about the benefits of using the discipline to cure muscle pain in the hip.

Yoga teacher Christopher Ken Baxter told the Yoga Site that using yoga techniques can help to relax muscles and reduce flare up which can lead to muscle pain in that area.

He said: "It is clear that yoga can relieve chronic pain, but one must have the willingness to be in a new relationship with the body and its pain, hold a compassionate and supportive intention and develop core strength."

Hatha yoga and bikram yoga are considered to be the most effective forms of the discipline for targeting hip pain, as they help to gently open the muscles and increase their range of motion.

The former works by helping to regulate intake of breath to relieve stress. Bikram yoga involves performing a series of strenuous exercises in a heated room, which helps to warm muscles and ligaments and allow them to stretch.

Yoga is also said to help with back and neck pain.
