Pregnant women hoping to keep themselves and their unborn child healthy in between baby scans have been encouraged to change their eating habits so that it embraces a balanced diet.
Dr Joanna Helcke, pregnancy and post-natal fitness specialist and founder of Zest4lifeUK, believes that this should include mothers-to-be eating at least five portions of vegetables a day, along with a minimum of three portions of fruit.
In regards to such food stuff, the expert acknowledged that dark green leafy vegetables and bright-coloured fruit are wise to keep both the mother and baby healthy during labour.
Protein is also a higher requirement during pregnancy, Ms Helcke went on to note, as well as such food rich in wholegrain carbohydrates as brown basmati rice and porridge.
"It's best to keep off fried, oily food in pregnancy as it tends to trigger queasiness, not to mention piling on the pounds," she also stated.
A healthy diet could also be inherited by babies while in the womb, with new research suggesting that babies develop a sweet tooth before birth.
