We're delighted to announce that Spire Healthcare won two awards at the prestigious Laing & Buisson Independent Healthcare Awards on Tuesday 14 September.
Jan Clement, National Head of Clinical Services, received the award for Nursing Practice for her professional leadership and success in supporting the development of nursing standards and supervision. It is the second year in a row that Spire has received the top award for nursing standards.
Nigel Sharp, National Engineering and Estates Manager, was presented with the award for Risk Management. He and his team have worked hard to develop an industry-leading system to monitor and update facilities on a rolling basis, which helps to ensure our hospitals are running safely and efficiently.
Nigel says he has never seen a company give engineering management such a high profile. “Spire is unique among UK healthcare organisations in having such a comprehensive risk management strategy.
“Most of our hospitals were built in the 1980s, so recently a lot of important equipment, like boilers and ventilation plant, was nearing the end of its life. These facilities are critical to hospital safety and efficiency, so our team pulled together a strategy to assess which were the most critical and prioritise their replacement. It was a huge undertaking, but by the end of year one we had eradicated all extreme and high risks. We are continuing to update facilities on a rolling basis to future-proof the business.”
Several other Spire teams were also finalists at the awards:
- Sonia King and the National Clinical Services Team and National Pathology Committee for Healthcare Outcomes
- Miriam Watts, Martin Duffy, Wally Bourdelov and the management team at Spire Edinburgh Hospitals for Management Excellence
- Sian Chandler and Tony Smith at Spire Yale Hospital for Innovation
- Heather Dob, Hospital Director at Spire Portsmouth and Rupert Cockcroft, Chief Executive at CancerPartners UK, for Best use of Technology
A wide range of leading companies from the private healthcare sector attended. Congratulations to Nigel, Jan and all the other nominees – this is a fantastic achievement.
