Specialises in
I am an ophthalmic surgeon, based in Edinburgh, with more than 20 years experience. I was appointed as a consultant based in the Edinburgh Eye Pavilion in 1999 and have practised at Spire Shawfair Park since it opened.
I performed 580 small incision phacoemulsification cataract surgery procedures over the past 12 months using topical (no injections) anaesthesia for more than 99% of all cases.
My results taken from my last appraisal (12.1.24) are:
Visual outcomes: 97% of my patients saw 6/12 or better @ 4/52 postop (benchmarking figure 91%*) with 75% seeing 6/12 or better unaided. This data includes all returned audit forms which represents 34% (194/580) of all operations performed.
Complications: 0.3% (2/580) posterior capsular tear (benchmarking figure 0.9%*)
I have taught extensively, I co-author Ophthalmology Pocket Tutor, the third edition of which has just been published.
