Gallbladder removal: what to expect at Spire Cardiff Hospital

Every gallbladder removal we undertake involves either keyhole or open surgery. The former is done through small incisions and usually takes one to two hours. You can often leave hospital the next or even the same day after this. Open surgery takes a little longer and requires a few days stay. You’ll have a consultation before your operation to determine which approach is required.

On the day, once you arrive at the hospital the team will take care of everything. You’ll be shown to your private room and placed under anaesthetic when ready. The procedure should then take a few hours at most.
