    Professional profile:

Mr John Meyrick Thomas qualified from Caius College, Cambridge and Bart's in 1974, doing house jobs at St Leonard's and Bart's hospitals. Post-FRCS he worked at Watford for a year and Exeter for 2 years as surgical registrar (winning the Southwest Surgeons' prize); and then spent 2 years as research fellow in the Gastroenterology department at Central Middlesex, doing research which led to the Master of Surgery degree from Cambridge University.

Mr Meyrick Thomas was the Senior Surgical Registrar at the Royal Free, Whittington and Royal Northern Hospitals 1984-1989 prior to being appointed as Consultant Surgeon & Surgical Gastroenterologist in 1989. He holds an Associate Professorship with the St George's University School of Medicine (Grenada) and Honorary Senior Lectureship at University College London, both in recognition of his teaching of medical students. He has published and lectured widely on subjects related to surgery and gastroenterology.

Mr Meyrick Thomas' practice comprises general, laparoscopic, upper GI and non-cancer colorectal and general paediatric surgery, as well as both upper and lower GI endoscopy. His particular interests include laparoscopic anti-reflux and hiatal hernia surgery, hernia surgery, groin pain, general paediatric procedures and ingrowing toenails!

    Personal profile:

Outside surgery, I play the classical guitar (badly but I'm practising) and my wife and I both enjoy visits to the theatre, opera, ballet and fine art exhibitions, as well as choral singing, skiing and travel.
