Mr Jiten Tolia graduated from Glasgow University and completed his post graduate qualifications in ophthalmology. He moved to the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham for his Senior Registrar training, enabling him to gain extensive experience. Mr Tolia's first consultant post at Ysbyty Gwynedd in Wales enabled him to practice the full range of ophthalmology and he could do phase II research into new drugs for the treatment of glaucoma and diabetes. Mr Tolia was the subject of several award winning ophthalmic documentaries, HTV and S4C.
Mr Jiten Tolia has had 22 years of experience in ophthalmology. He has particular skills in phacoemulsification of cataract (in excess of 10,000) both with the standard lens implants and the new Restor lens which now enables both reading and distance vision without glasses.
He treats macular degeneration with intravitreal injections, both Lucentis and Avastin.
Mr Tolia has had considerable experience in using lasers for glaucoma, diabetes and retinal holes, having performed about 300 procedures per annum for over 25 years.
He has had considerable experience in treating patients with botox for squint, facial spasms and with his work on the treatment of basal cell carcinomas. He is skilled at subtle treatments to the face for the reduction of unsightly facial irregularities.
Mr Tolia's practice has evolved over the years to keep up with modern developments and he firmly believes in treating the patient and not just the disease, helped by the insight that extensive experience provides.
Mr Tolia has run many teaching events which have always proved very popular, almost all his teaching evenings are fully booked. He is working on a new symptom based ophthalmic consultation system along the lines of "It's me eye doc - now what do I do?"
