Spire Bushey Hospital Registered General Nurse Mussarat Iqbal and Sister Kelly Barnes held a cake sale at Spire Bushey Hospital on Thursday 17 July to raise money for a children’s charity.
Mussarat regularly holds lots of charity events with her local church, but was inspired to raise money for a children’s charity after tragically losing her nephew in May this year.
Mussarat chose the Little Princess Trust, which provides real-hair wigs, free of charge, to children suffering hair loss. Singer and songwriter Jessie J famously donated her hair to the same charity.
After talking to her colleagues and Sister Kelly, they decided to hold a cake sale for a children’s charity.
Overwhelmed by the generosity of their colleagues, friends and the hospital, Mussarat said:
“I lost my nephew Abrahim in May this year and I wanted to do something to raise money for a children’s charity. So I spoke to Kelly about holding a cake sale. My daughter Sophia, Kelly and I baked many of the cakes. I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who supported us and donated money for such a worthwhile charity.”
A total of £176.67p was raised from the cake sale for the Little Princess Trust. Not content with raising money for the Little Princess Trust charity, on Monday 1 September Mussarat will be going one step further for the charity by also donating seven inches of her hair. Mussarat was very touched by the three pages of sponsorship she received from colleagues in one day for her to cut her hair.
