Physiotherapy at Spire Bushey Hospital

Being treated by the physiotherapy team at Spire Bushey means you will receive the highest levels of clinical excellence and expertise from our highly experienced specialist physiotherapists. The physiotherapy team are an integral part of the clinical body and form part of the support team for our consultants. This means they use the latest research and evidence based methods of treatment in their clinical practice. Physiotherapists have regular opportunities to discuss cases with consultants, whether for an individual who is being treated in conjunction with a surgeon or simply for input with patients receiving outpatient treatment.

Our physiotherapists have regular opportunities to discuss cases with consultants.

We believe this expertise and integral links to the broad consultant body sets our physiotherapy team apart from other practices.

Our team comprises 15 team members, all of whom are chartered physiotherapists and specialise in specific areas of the body. This means that rather than receiving treatment from a generalist in a small practice, you will have access to physiotherapists specialising in a number of areas, depending on your need. These areas include foot and ankle, knee, hip, back, shoulder and upper back, hand, continence, disorders of the inner ear, including balance, neurophysiotherapists for stroke and head injuries, and specialist paediatric physiotherapists.

In addition to the broad team of specialists our extensive physiotherapist department includes a wide range of supporting facilities and services;

  • A hydrotherapy pool, for exercising in a warm and supporting environment to ease mobility. Exercising in a non-weight bearing environment such as water, together with its buoyancy, can help with early stages of rehab following surgery.
  • Isokinetic cybex equipment that can test and improve muscular strength and endurance, especially after injury.
  • Gait analysis to assess whether a patients’ placing of the foot while walking has a mechanical effect on their skeleton and so is the cause of pain. The latest technology software enables a “hot foot print” to be analysed and diagnosed, and a treatment plan drawn up.
  • Active back rehabilitation, a specialist course of treatment to strengthen core trunk stability and so help protect the back from further injury. This programme also helps patients understand improvements which can be incorporated into everyday life to protect and strengthen the back.
  • Pilates (Individual and group) - An exercise method, designed to elongate, strengthen and restore the body to balance. The Pilates teacher creates a comprehensive exercise programme for the client.
  • The physiotherapists are also able to refer patients for x-ray, ultrasound and other scans to aid diagnosis. This means that in addition to aiding your treatment, your diagnostic test will already have been completed, which will enable a much more streamlined service once you see the consultant.

By choosing the physiotherapy team at Spire Bushey Hospital, you can be confident that you will be receiving the latest evidence-based care from dedicated specialists with the full back up of the broad consultant body and the diagnostic imaging facilities of a large and busy private hospital.
