I am the senior gynaecologist and gynaecological surgeon at Southmead Hospital, Bristol, where I have been a Consultant for over 20 years. I am also an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Bristol. I am the Director of the Southmead Endometriosis Centre, a nationally accredited centre for the treatment of endometriosis.I am a nationally recognised expert in gynaecology, complex laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery and pelvic ultrasound scans. The bulk of my surgical work involves keyhole surgery for heavy periods, ovarian cysts, endometriosis and other conditions. Most of my patients have been referred to me for this expertise, and my opinion is regularly sought by other consultants. I perform transvaginal ultrasound scans during the consultation. This allows a 'one stop' approach to most gynaecological conditions, as well as providing me with vital information so I can discuss of treatment options with patients. I have written textbooks on ultrasound scans and laparoscopic surgery.
I qualified from the University of London in 1985 and have been an elected member of the Councils of both the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy. This work has led to significant improvements in the training of doctors of the future, and I am regularly invited to lecture at national and international educational meetings.
