Mr Simon Thomas and Mr Guy Atherton, consultant colleagues at Bristol Children's Hospital since 2007 and 2004 respectively, have teamed up to form Bristol Children's Orthopaedic Group at Spire Bristol. This is a new service exclusively for children and adolescents with orthopaedic problems and sports injuries. The footfall of private paediatric orthopaedic cases is not historically large; by teaming up they can offer regular weekly clinics, an advice line for GPs via their website and combined review for complex cases replicating the "conference" approach sometimes used in the NHS.
Their details appear on a new website www.bristolchildrensorthopaedicgroup.com. If you would like more direct contact for advice or referrals then please contact their practice manager Kay James (firstname.lastname@example.org) who will forward their e mail addresses. Fax is 0117 342 8831; mobile 07804 433 682.
Mr Simon Thomas and Mr Guy Atherton pictured with local Bristol pupil Lewis Clarke the night before he left on his world breaking record, completed on 18th January 2014, to cross country ski the full 700 miles unaided from the Antarctic Coast to the South Pole. At 16 years old he is the youngest person ever to do so. His skis were sponsored by Spire Bristol Children’s Orthopaedic Group whose services he did not otherwise, fortunately, ever require.
