I am a consultant in Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD), based at the Bristol Heart Institute, at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, an ACHD centre renowned Europe-wide, receiving referrals from the South West of England. I have a particular interest in young persons' transition from paediatric to adult-centred care and inherited cardiac conditions, such as Marfan's syndrome.
I am Cardiac Lead for a nationally recognised service for caring for pregnant women with heart disease and receive referrals from colleagues throughout the South West. I organise both regional and national teaching in this field.
I am a specialist in heart ultrasound (echocardiography) and am British Society of Echocardiography accredited in both Transthoracic (re-accredited 2011) and Transoesophageal Echocardiography. I offer a same day service, including reporting, for both types of Echocardiography and routinely perform complex echo, including 3D.
Looking after adult patients with congenital heart disease is both challenging and rewarding. Patients often have a combination of conditions that may include heart failure, rhythm problems, valve disease and coronary artery disease, all of which interact in their individual anatomy and physiology to produce unique and complex cardiac issues. My cardiology interests reflect this diversity and I routinely see patients with cardiomyopathies, and valve disease.
I offer an individualised and holistic approach to patient care and am passionate about high quality care for my patients and spreading knowledge in ACHD through regional teaching for cardiologists, which I run in the South West.
I present at national meetings on ACHD and pregnancy in heart disease and have published in these areas and in heart failure.
I trained at Edinburgh University, St Mary's Hospital and the Royal Brompton Hospital in London before completing my training in Bristol, carrying out advanced TOE training sessions at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. I completed my Doctorate of Medicine at Imperial College in London.
