Background Information
Professional profile:
My professional training and initial academic career took place at the University of Tübingen, Germany. I specialised in internal medicine, cardiology and intensive care medicine.

I was appointed as a reader in cardiology at the University of Bristol in May 2000. As lead physician of the catheterisation laboratory at the Bristol Royal Infirmary my main task has been to implement an efficient system with the highest standards of care. This includes the refurbishment and installation of new catheterisation laboratories.

Provision of high quality clinical care is essential to me. Although I have a major interest in interventional cardiology, I do cover all areas of cardiology excluding electrophysiology. My special interest is the diagnosis of chest pain and the management of patients with well established coronary disease.

I carry out the complete range of non-invasive tests including electrocardiograms (ECG), treadmill tests, 24 hour electrocariograms (ECG), 24 hour blood pressure measurements and echocardiography.

I perform coronary angiograms and coronary angioplasty for stable angina as well as emergency procedures in acute coronary syndromes. I have an interest in physiological measurements (flow reserve) and intravascular imaging to increase the diagnostic quality of angiograms.

My research activities focus on clinical studies dealing with optimising the outcomes of angioplasty, quality management as well as non-invasive cardiac imaging.
Personal profile:
When I am not in the hospital or travelling, I enjoy family life. I have three young children who are now at an age where sport is becoming increasingly important. I therefore spend time on the tennis courts, in the swimming pool and football pitch. My own training focuses on long distance running, for which the Bristol area is second to none.
