Tummy tuck for men

Some men struggle to get the look they want through excercise alone and Spire Manchester Hospital offers cosmetic procedures to help.

Growing numbers of men are opting for tummy tucks or abdominoplasty to improve their appearance and increase their self-confidence.

What is a tummy-tuck (abdominoplasty)?

A tummy tuck aims to flatten the stomach or belly by tightening your abdominal muscles and removing excess skin and fat.

You may have been left with folds of skin after losing weight. Or perhaps your saggy tummy is a result of the ageing process. For some men it could be an area of stubborn fat that you have been unable to shift with exercise or diet. Whatever the reason, an abdominoplasty could give you a slimmer, more defined shape.

The procedure should not be considered as a way to lose weight. You should ideally have achieved your target weight before undergoing a tummy tuck operation.

About male tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) surgery

During a tummy tuck, incisions are made across the lower abdomen and around the tummy button. Excess skin and fat may be removed and stretched or torn muscles are pulled together and stitched in place. The remaining skin is then pulled down and a new hole is made for your tummy button.

You will be left with a scar around your tummy button, though this can usually be hidden by your underwear. Maintaining a healthy weight following your surgery will help your new shape to last as your skin will not be stretched again.

Abdominoplasties are performed under general anaesthetic, which means you will be asleep during the procedure. You will usually stay in hospital for one or two nights after your operation and will need to plan time off work so that you can recover at home.
