Professor Turner has been a consultant in Trauma and orthopaedics at Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport since November 1990 after training in Manchester and visiting several specialist centres nationally and internationally.  His interests are in all aspects of knee surgery including sports injuries to the knee and general trauma.  He performs arthroscopic surgery, anterior cruciate and complex ligament reconstruction, corrective osteotomies and articular cartilage repair.  Knee replacement surgery includes primary, complex and revision knee replacements as well as minimally invasive unicompartmental replacements.  The Stockport Knee Unit has an active teaching and research programme with recording and audit of outcomes.  He manages many tertiary referrals from the North West Region and nationally as well as providing a service for many elite and professional sports teams.

In addition to his clinical commitments he was Head of Training and Programme Director for Orthopaedics in the North West.  He is now the Head of the School of Surgery in the North Western Deanery, responsible for the management of all post-graduate surgical training.  He is also an Examiner and Examiner Assessor for the Intercollegiate Board in Trauma and Orthopaedics and an elected member of the BOA Council and invited member of the Council of the Royal College of Surgeons.
 
He was appointed as Honorary Professor in the School of Health Sciences at Salford University in 2009.

He is available to see patients and perform surgery at the Spire Manchester Hospital.
