Mr. Kalkur qualified in medicine from one of the best medical schools in India, with a distinction and a University Gold Medal. He then did his post-graduate Gynaecological residency programme, leading on to the MS degree.
After coming to the UK in 2003, he trained in a good tertiary hospital in Belfast and then did his higher Gynaecological training in best hospitals such as St Marys and Chelsea in London to obtain focussed training in Gynaecology and Minimal Access surgery. Following completion of his specialist training Mr. Kalkur completed a Fellowship in Gynaecological Oncology at Oxford. He is happy that he was trained by some of the world leading experts in Gynaecology.
In 2012 Mr Kalkur was appointed as a Consultant at Southend Hospital NHS Trust where his special areas of interest are Outpatient Hysteroscopy, Minimal access surgery including key hole hysterectomy for early stage endometrial cancers, Colposcopy.
He has more than 15 years of experience in obstetrics and gynaecology, and has special skills accreditation in laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery for treatment of fibroids, pelvic pain, endometriosis, infertility and menstrual disorders and early stage endometrial cancers.
At Spire Wellesley Hospital Mr Kalkur sees patients with pelvic pain, menstrual disorders, vulval problems, menopausal problems, fibroids, endometriosis and he has special expertise in the investigation and treatment of heavy and irregular periods. To investigate abnormal bleeding, including post-menopausal bleeding, he performs diagnostic hysteroscopy to visualise the inside of the womb. He offers various treatment options for heavy and irregular periods, including the use of the Mirena System and NovaSure endometrial ablation. He is able to offer these treatments in an Outpatient setting when these are the patient's wishes. He also performs Essure Hysteroscopic sterilisation in an Outpatient setting.
Mr Kalkur performs laparoscopic (keyhole surgery) hysterectomy as an alternative to abdominal and vaginal hysterectomy, which reduces the hospital stay for the patient, recovery time and scarring. He also performs laparoscopic removal of cysts and ovaries.
