Dr Gary Bray is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at Southend University Hospital and has been in that position for over twenty years. He qualified at the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel in 1983 and underwent training in gastroenterology and hepatology at Hammersmith, St Mary’s and Chelsea and Westminster Hospitals.
He worked for over four years at the Institute of Liver Studies at Kings College Hospital as a clinical registrar and research fellow. His main research areas were paracetamol induced liver damage and Primary Biliary Cirrhosis (PBC) and completed his MD thesis.
Since working in Southend, his main interests are in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy such as gastroscopy, colonoscopy and ERCP as well as the treatment of liver disease.
He is particularly interested in therapeutic endoscopy and multidisciplinary management of gastrointestinal cancer being chairman of the colorectal MDT for many years and developing colonic stenting in the Trust.
He has a major interest in all forms of liver disease and is the lead for hepatology at Southend University Hospital.
He is the lead clinician for gastroenterology and endoscopy at Southend University Hospital and is also Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Queens Mary College, London.
