I trained in general medicine and spent two years as a Senior Registrar in Clinical Oncology and Therapeutics. I am a fully accredited General Physician and Medical Oncologist as well as having undergone training in Clinical Oncology and holding the FRCR.
I took up my Consultant post in 1984 and the provided a General Oncology service to Watford General Hospital until 2006. I initially also worked at the Lister Hospital, Stevenage. In 1989 I moved to Wexham Park Hospital in Slough to provide a similar service and opened the Parapet Breast Clinic in Windsor in 1991. Since 2005 I have been Clinical Lead for this service.
I believe the future of the speciality lies in greater site specialisation and cooperation with other colleagues in other disciplines working on the same disease through multi-disciplinary team working. In the last few years, I have increasingly specialised in breast cancer, but still see patients with other disease sites at the specific request of colleagues.
All patients with breast cancer that I see will have received full multi-disciplinary team assessment. Multi-disciplinary meetings are held weekly with the Breast Surgeons, Radiologists and Pathologists with whom I work closely.
