Janet Senior has received a new lease of life after undergoing two hip replacement procedures at the Spire Regency Hospital in Macclesfield under the care of Mr Barnes.

Janet from Heald Green, Stockport, is now indulging her passion for travel to the full, exploring different countries across the globe without the pain and discomfort which had previously blighted her life.

Janet, who had her right hip replaced in 2007 followed by her left earlier this year, said: “I’m 150 per cent better than I was before.

“It’s so liberating to be able to do the things I want to without suffering with painful joints and mobility problems.”

Janet believes the trigger for her problems could have been an accident she had back in 2002, when she reached out to move a heavy object. “I felt something like a piece of elastic snap somewhere between my thigh and my stomach,” she said.

She received treatment and soon returned to work. But there was also a labrial tear in her right groin which caused her right leg to give way. This also led to a painful right hip due to walking differently.

Although she underwent a procedure to repair it in 2005, over the next two years she began to suffer increasing problems with her right hip.

Janet, who was just 55 at the time, explained: “I would be walking along – it didn’t matter whether it was flat or up or downstairs – and it would just lock. I’d have to stop and wait until it clicked back into place.

“I later found out this was due to spurs which had been growing on the bone and kept getting caught.”

A colleague of Janet's recommended Spire Regency and Janet attended for a consultation using her private health insurance. She underwent the first hip replacement procedure in May 2007 and said the difference was ‘amazing’.

But sadly soon afterwards Janet also began having difficulties with her left hip. “It was like bone rubbing on bone this time,” she said.

“I was walking really badly and was worried about the damage that I could be doing to my other, new hip. I couldn’t get comfortable at night meaning I often also struggled to sleep.”

After battling the problem for several years, in 2012 Janet finally set aside some time for a second operation. She underwent the procedure in March and is now fighting fit again – enjoying being a fun and active grandma to Connor, 14, and Jack, nine, and exploring the world, with recent trips including a Scandinavian cruise and a city break to Barcelona.

“We’re all going away on a family holiday to Texas in October,” Janet added.
“Now I’m walking and sleeping properly again I’m really looking forward to it.
“The treatment and care I received at Spire Regency was wonderful, and the staff were so welcoming and put me at ease.
“I’m very grateful for the difference the operation has made to my life. In some ways I’m sorry I didn’t have the second operation earlier, but mostly I’m just pleased I don’t have to put up with the pain any longer.”
