Neurology is the branch of medicine which relates to the study and treatment of disorders of the nervous system. The nervous system is a complex system that is divided into two areas, the peripheral nervous system and the central nervous system. Neurological disorders may present a range of symptoms for patients all of which may be managed by your neurologist. A disorder of the nervous system that requires surgery may be referred on to a neurosurgeon. Neurosurgeons specialise in the treatment of the central and peripheral nervous system through surgical intervention. This will include tumours, vascular disorders and spinal problems including disc prolapse for neck and back pain.
