Consultant Hepatologist, Southampton General Hospital
British Association for the Study of Liver Disease
I undertook hepatology and gastroenterology training in Cambridge and Edinburgh before taking up my current post as consultant hepatologist in Southampton in 2008. I am a fully accredited hepatologist and am on the specialist register for hepatology, gastroenterology and general medicine. I see patients with all aspects of liver disease and manage upper gastrointestinal diseases including performing gastroscopy.
In addition to my clinical duties, I have a very active role in teaching and reasearch. I am secretary of the Wessex gastroenterology training committee and am responsible for coordinating hepatology training in the region. I have recently published a textbook on hepatology for medical students and junior doctors and have published many research and review articles. I have advised NICE on the use of antiviral agents for treating hepatitis B and C and am currently the comprehensive local research network lead for hepatology research in Hampshire.
My hobbies include music, enjoying the outdoors and maintaining a high level of personal fitness. I live with my family in Winchester.
