If you need to come into Spire Southampton Hospital for a procedure or operation, we aim to make the process as easy as possible for you ensuring you have all the information you need.
Preparing for your admission
Once you have chosen your consultant and had the treatment you require confirmed, you will be given a date for your surgery. We will send you an admission pack which will provide you with information about the following:
- What you should bring with you
- What time you should arrive at the hospital
- Any fasting instructions if you require a general anaesthetic
- When to attend a pre assessment appointment (where applicable)
If you are paying for your treatment yourself we will also confirm the cost of the procedure and how you can pay for it.
If you have private medical insurance you should check with your insurance company that you are covered by your insurance.
Your stay in hospital
In the majority of cases you will enjoy the comfort of your own room. Each room is made up of an ensuite bathroom or shower room, direct dial telephone and a digital TV showing freeview channels. A DVD player is available and each room also has access to WiFi, so please feel free to bring your laptop with you.
We welcome visitors and appreciate that their support can play a vital role in your recovery. We do have flexible visiting hours between 10am and 9pm, but do encourage our patients to get as much rest as possible after their operation or treatment.
All post received during your stay will be delivered directly to your room. Your visitors may bring flowers as long as you do not suffer from any allergies.
Discharge from hospital
If you are staying overnight you will need to arrange to be collected by 9.30am unless otherwise instructed by your consultant or nurse. On discharge you will be given an advice sheet and a follow-up appointment to see your consultant if required.
If you have any concerns or are feeling at all unwell once you have been discharged from the hospital you should contact the hospital immediately.
