    Background Information
    Professional profile:

I obtained my degree in Ophthalmic Optics from UWIST in Cardiff in 1976 and then spent a year in London working in an opticians after which I qualified as Ophthalmic Optician. I then came back to Birmingham and joined the family business of Opticians. Unfortunately, my father had to retire earlier than planned due to ill health, after which I have continued to run the business.

I have been involved in a number of committees and I was chair of the Walsall Local Optical Committee for many years, as well as being Ophthalmic advisor on the Walsall Ophthalmic Disciplinary Committee.
I set up and ran the Low Vision Clinic at the eye department at the Walsall Manor Hospital and I was instrumental in setting up the Walsall Diabetic Eye Screening programme working as the lead screener.

I am one of only a few Opticians in the Midlands specialising in prescribing spectacle lenses with a unique tint which may be beneficial to help people who suffer from Visual Stress, which is believed to be more prevalent in people with certain reading difficulties such as dyslexia and it can also relieve migraine symptoms.

I offer a range of services including: Eye tests and the supply of spectacles - expert advice on the many types of spectacles lenses now available. Expert advice and supply of the different types of sunglasses - to prescription if required. Expert advice advice and supply of recreational spectacles to prescription e.g.shooting, swimming, cycling, snooker etc. Repairs of spectacles - if cannot be done straight away usually within one working day. I supply bespoke frames for Down's Syndrome patients.

I work in partnership with Ophthalmologists - I can supply Low Vision Aids to help conditions such as macular degeneration- I can tell the Ophthalmologist the prescription of patients who may have had cataracts removed - I can also advise the prescription of keratoconic patients. Any of my patients who require further Ophthalmological referral can be referred to the appropriate Ophthalmologist within the hospital.

I shall shortly specialise in Sports Vision testing, a test often used by professional sports people.
