Mr Rochester qualified from Trinity College, Cambridge in 1998 with first class honours in medical sciences. After surgical training in Oxford Mr Rochester undertook a period of full-time laboratory research in urological oncology at the Institute of Molecular Medicine in Oxford which led to the award of an MD degree and election to the post of Royal College of Surgeons of England Hunterian Professor in 2006. His specialist urology training took place in the Eastern Deanery, predominantly in Norwich and Cambridge. Mr Rochester has subspecialty training in urological cancer surgery, particularly for the kidney and bladder and offers minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery for these conditions - laparoscopic cystectomy, radical and partial nephrectomy. He also has expertise in Holmium laser enucleation for the prostate (HoLEP/laser prostatectomy) for benign prostate enlargement and has mentored other surgeons in this new technique, which offers a shorter hospital stay (usually 23 hours) and post-operative catheterisation time than traditional TURP (transurethral resection of the prostate). Mr Rochester maintains an active interest in clinical research, currently co-supervising surgeons towards research degrees at UEA and running a randomised trial for patients with chronic pelvic pain funded by a Regional Innovation Fund Grant.
Mr Rochester is married with three daughters and an ageing Labrador.
