Channel 4’s flagship health programme, Embarrassing Bodies will feature Dr Waji Hassan, Consultant Rheumatologist at Spire Leicester Hospital, where he treats a patient suffering from acute and chronic gout.
As its name suggests, Embarrassing Bodies is a programme centred on helping patients with health issues that they find embarrassing or that they have found no help with treating previously.
Embarrassing Bodies' resident GP met the 59 year old gentleman from Yorkshire to discuss the painful lumps affecting both his hands and feet. Following the advice given, the patient went to see Dr Hassan a specialist in Arthritis at Spire Leicester Hospital in Oadby, Leicester to explore the treatment options that might help his condition.
Dr Hassan says "There are different types of arthritis and patients need to be fully assessed before a diagnosis can be made. The incidence of gout is on the rise and as in this case, can be extremely painful requiring a combination of pain killers and a long term treatment to prevent further attacks."
Embarrassing Bodies airs on Channel 4 at 9pm on Monday September 26 2011.
