Dr Conway aims to offer appointments within 1-2 weeks of referral and to see urgent referrals immediately. He is conscious of the anxiety that is caused on occasions by waiting times for NHS appointments and assures parents that he will never request investigations in the private sector that, if without medical insurance, they may find more expensive than they anticipated.
The first appointment is for 45 minutes, allowing time to make sure that the children are settled. Patients should be referred by their general practitioner or a consultant.
Dr Conway qualified at St George's Hospital London in 1978 and has worked in paediatric units in Leeds since 1982, initally as a registrar and taking up a consultant post in 1988. He has specialised training in infection related problems and respiratory medicine.
Dr Conway's practice covers all areas of paediatric medicine and he is willing to see children with a wide range of general paediatric problems eg asthma, recurrent cough, abdominal pain, constipation, babies with feeding difficulties etc.
Dr Conway developed an interest in chronic fatigue syndrome when working on the Regional Infectious Disease Unit in Leeds and offers a service for children and adults with this condition.
