A grandmother from Hornchurch got more than she bargained for when she went to hospital for an ankle scan recently – and was showered with gifts!
Rosie Green, 55, from Hornchurch, is a patient of Mr Krishna Vemulapalli, consultant orthopaedic surgeon. She has rheumatoid arthritis and inflammation in her Achilles tendon and underwent the 10,000th MRI scan at Spire Hartswood Hospital in Brentwood. The MRI scanner was installed at the hospital in January 2009 at the cost of £2.3 million. Now, three years later, and 10,000 scans on, it’s the workhorse of the imaging department.
Rosie was presented with a bouquet by hospital director Mark Gilmour, and a framed photo of her ankle scan, before being treated to a celebration cake.
Rosie says, “I found out I was the 10,000th patient when I came for the MRI scan. I’m very pleased with the service at Spire Hartswood Hospital; I’ve been here before and had no hesitation coming back. This is my hospital of choice. The care and treatment I’ve received here has been fantastic.”
The Siemens MAGNETOM Avanto MRI scanner at Spire Hartswood Hospital contains a 1.5 Teslar magnet. The scanner produces precise diagnostic images for a range of everyday and complex medical conditions. The scanner service is in high demand and the hospital recently extended to include more evening and weekend appointments, including Sunday opening.
