    Background Information
    Professional profile:

Mr Sabu Jacob has a thriving private practice at Spire Roding Hospital in Essex (on the east London borders) and at Spire Hartswood Hospital in Brentwood, Essex.

Mr Jacob was appointed as consultant general surgeon specialising in vascular and laparoscopic surgery at Barking, Havering & Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust in 1999. His NHS clinics are based at Queens Hospital after having worked at the King George Hospital for 11 years.

Mr Jacob has extensive experience in vascular surgery – both venous and arterial.
He was the first surgeon to perform the keyhole repair of abdominal aortic aneurysm (Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR) ) using a stent graft at King George Hospital in 2000 and the first surgeon to perform keyhole repair of ruptured aurtic aneurysm at Queen's Hospital in 2013.  He carries out a variety of other vascular procedures such as lower limb bypass surgery, carotid endarterectomy and angioplasties in the private sector.

Mr Jacob has a special interest in varicose vein surgery and the new minimally invasive treatment options that are available. He introduced the Venefit™ procedure (radiofrequency ablation of varicose veins. formerly known as VNUS™ Closure) in the private sector in Essex and as a pilot study at King George Hospital. He has performed over 250 Venefit™ procedures with excellent results and patient satisfaction.

Mr Jacob also has a keen interest in laparoscopic surgery and first introduced the laparoscopic extraperitoneal hernia repair (TEP) at Barking, Havering & Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. He also won the first prize for his presentation on laparoscopic hernia at the European Endoscopic Surgeons Conference hosted in 2004.

Mr Jacob has carried out over 500 laparoscopic hernia repairs in the private sector with only two recurrences.  In addition to hernia surgery he also routinely performs laparoscopic gallbladder surgery and minimally invasive thoracoscopic sympathectomy for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating of hands and armpits).

For patients concerned about spider and thread veins, Mr Jacob offers thermal coagulation and injection treatment.

    Mr Sabu Jacob

Mr Sabu Jacob Vascular surgery & General surgery Consultant, Brentwood, Essex, private hospital specialist.

    Venefit™ for varicose veins

Venefit™ treatment, formerly known as VNUS Closure™, is offered at Spire Hartswood Hospital by Mr Sabu Jacob. Venefit™ is a minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins.

A heated probe attached to a generator is used to obliterate (close) the faulty vein, redirecting blood through nearby healthy veins, which take over and empty blood from the legs.

The procedure is performed in the operating theatres at Spire Hartswood Hospital and patients normally go home on the same day. Read more.
