Professional profile:

Dr Orrell qualified from Manchester University in 1982. He trained in neurology in Leeds and London. He was Senior Registrar in Neurology at Charing Cross Hospital, and Visiting Professor in Neurology at University of Rochester, New York, USA for 12 months.

Dr Orrell is interested in the whole range of neurological conditions, including headache, epilepsy, stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, and rarer conditions. He has special interests in disorders of nerve, muscle and brain, and international recognition in disorders of muscle and nerve, motor neuron disease, and neurogenetics.

Dr Orrell was appointed Consultant Neurologist at QE2 Hospital, Welwyn Garden City in 1998, and is also Consultant Neurologist at the Royal Free Hospital, and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. Dr Orrell provides a general neurology service in Hertfordshire, and more specialised clinics in neuromuscular disorders and neurogenetics in London. Dr Orrell provides a muscle and nerve biopsy service, and performs nerve conduction studies and EMG. He offers steroid injection for carpal tunnel syndrome, and botulinum toxin injection for movement disorders.

At Spire Harpenden Hospital, Dr Orrell provides a consultation and diagnostic service for patients with all neurological problems. These include headache, migraine, epilepsy, dizziness, stroke, brain tumours, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, movement disorders, memory problems, Alzheimers' disease, nerve and muscle disorders, and rarer conditions, with further investigation and management to suit the patient and their condition.
