Spire Gatwick Park Hospital is proud to announce the start of building work for the new 3 Tesla (3T) MRI scanner which will be the very first of its kind within the Spire healthcare group. This will replace the current machine which has scanned in excess of 27,000 patients.
A mobile MRI unit was positioned in the grounds of the hospital in late April and will be in place until the new scanner is launched in July 2013. The 3T project is a £1.8 million investment in the hospitals imaging facilities.
The Siemens MAGNETOM Skyra will be one of the first static 3T MRI scanners to be installed in the Surrey and Sussex area. The scanner will offer an increase in productivity delivered through faster scan times.
The scanner offers various technological features which ensure consistent and efficient workflow. It will be particularly welcomed for neurological, body, cardiac and musculoskeletal applications.
David Hillier, lead CT / MRI radiographer at Spire Gatwick Park Hospital commented: ‘The new scanner features a short, wide bore which increases patient acceptance. Image resolution will also be increased allowing detailed imaging of incredibly small structures. The 3T scanner will take our established MRI service to the next level and will be available to all patients – whether privately insured or self funding’.
