Mr Robert Macadam is a sub-specialist in the highly specialised field of laparoscopic or keyhole surgery for morbid obesity. Mr Macadam qualified in 1990 for the University of Leeds and was appointed to the general surgery training programme at St James’s Hospital. He was awarded a Royal College of Surgeons Fellowship, and a Medical Research Council Fellowship for his PhD research into gene expression in Cancer under Professor Sir Alex Markham. Appointed to a teaching hospital consultants post in 2005 in upper gastrointestinal and minimal access surgery at University Hospital Aintree, Mr Macadam developed his laparoscopic bariatric practice and was a founder member of Gravitas. He developed the only surgical practice of gastric neuromodulation in the North at this time. Mr Macadam joined Gravitas full-time in 2009 and now devotes nearly all his time to his obesity surgery.
Mr Macadam is married to Esther with three primary school aged children. Outside of work, his passion is rugby union. Mr Macadam is a RFU Level 1 coach and for the last 3 seasons has coached his eldest son’s (now Under 10’s) team, so some weeknights and most free weekends are spent travelling around the North West to a variety of rugby grounds!
