I am a fellowship-trained shoulder and knee surgeon (Fellowship in Toronto, 1998-1999). Over the last 15 years as an Orthopaedic Consultant, I have developed expertise in shoulder arthroscopy and complex shoulder reconstruction. I perform regular total shoulder replacements and reverse geometry shoulder replacements for osteoarthritis, inflammatory arthritis, rotator cuff arthropathy and post trauma.
I have a special interest in shoulder instability and injury in contact and professional sportsmen and women. I also have an interest in rotator cuff disease, management and prevention.I lecture regularly, nationally and internationally, on these subjects and also perform live surgery in order to demonstrate complex shoulder arthroscopy techniques.
I run bi-annual teaching courses in the UK with a group of experienced shoulder surgeons (The Watanabe Club). These courses aim to train senior orthopaedic trainees and junior consultants in the techniques of shoulder arthroscopy.
