I am a registered specialist in general adult psychiatry and in substance misuse. I have a special interest in helping individuals and families where there is an alcohol problem. I also have particular training and experience in treating illnesses where depression and/or anxiety are the main features. I am able to offer both a psychological and a medication approach.I have experience in helping resolution of workplace and family relationship difficulties.
After graduating in Natural Science and Experimental Psychology at Cambridge University, I trained in medicine in Edinburgh including neurology before specialising in psychiatry. I conducted research in France and as a Member of the Scientific Staff of the Medical Research Council. I practised for 30 years as an NHS consultant at The Royal Edinburgh Hospital. I have been a consultant to the World Health Organisation and government departments in Brazil, Canada, USA, Australia as well as the UK. I now work independently.
