Spire Clare Park Hospital is thrilled to announce the birth of their first IVF baby. Owen Davies, weighing 7lb 13oz, was delivered on 27th June 2012 at Frimley Park Hospital.
In 2011 Clare Park and Consultant Gynaecologist, Mr Nick Elkington set up a satellite IVF service in partnership with the Spire London Fertility Clinic (just off Harley Street). The aim being to offer patients from Hampshire, Surrey and surrounds a more convenient and relaxed environment for their Fertility journey. The London Fertility Centre is one of the longest established fertility centres in the UK, and is now a part of Spire Healthcare.
Couples with difficulty conceiving can be investigated and treated by Mr Elkington, with the added support of Fertility Nurse, Hilary. Those who require IVF or other fertility treatment can now have the majority of this treatment at Clare Park, with initial investigations, consent forms, monitoring of the cycles and pregnancy scans all being performed at Spire Clare Park Hospital, at Crondall near Farnham. Patients only have to go up to London if they require any subsequent HFEA-licensed treatment.
Debbie and Gareth Davies had been trying to conceive for over five years. Following investigation at Spire Clare Park and IVF treatment at LFC under the care of Nick and Hilary, they conceived after their first cycle. After Debbie’s very happy pregnancy, Owen was delivered at Frimley Park by Nick Elkington.
Nick grew up in Hampshire and was educated at Winchester College and St Thomas’ medical school. He was appointed as a consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Frimley Park Hospital in 2006 and is lead for laparoscopic surgery. He lives locally near Farnham with his wife and two boys. In his spare time he enjoys family life, DIY, gardening and golf.
On Saturday 6th October Spire Clare Park Hospital Fertility Service are running a free patient information afternoon from 2-4pm, with afternoon tea. This event offers all potential patients with questions and concerns over their fertility to attend an informal meeting to hear more from the Clare Park team, ask questions, collect information and tour the facilities. Mr Elkington is a leading specialist in laparoscopic surgery and fertility. He was appointed as lead for minimally invasive surgery at Frimley Park Hospital in 2006. He has introduced new techniques such as laparoscopic excision of endometriosis and total laparoscopic hysterectomy. He has set up a fertility service at Spire Clare Park Hospital and is able to offer satellite IVF (+/- ICSI) treatment with the Spire London Fertility Clinic.
Having trained at St Thomas’ Hospital as an undergraduate and later as a research registrar in reproductive medicine, he then pursued his interest in laparoscopic surgery working with experts in the field. After completing his training in the UK he was appointed to a prestigious fellowship at the Sydney Women’s Endosurgery Centre in Australia. Here he learnt to perform pioneering advanced laparoscopic techniques and brought this expertise back to the United Kingdom.
Mr Elkington lives with his wife and two boys near Farnham. He enjoys family life, DIY, gardening and golf.
