Professional profile:

Mr Gareth Stables is an orthopaedic surgeon specialising in arthroscopic (keyhole) knee surgery, knee ligament surgery and hip and knee replacement surgery.

He qualified from the University of Liverpool in 1998, and went on to complete his specialist training in orthopaedic surgery in the Cheshire and Merseyside area. Mr Stables became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2010.

Mr Stables developed his specialist interest in sports knee surgery and knee replacement surgery by completing a fellowship in hip & knee surgery including hip and knee arthroscopy at Wrightington Hospital. 

To complement this he also undertook a fellowship in sports knee (knee ligament & cartilage) surgery and knee replacement surgery at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. 

Mr Stables has published work in peer-reviewed journals and has contributed to orthopaedic book chapters he has also presented his research work at national and international meetings. 

Mr Gareth Stables maintains an interest in general orthopaedic trauma and is based at Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust


Personal profile:

In addition to Mr Stables clinical work he is interested in teaching and improving patient safety. He is also involved in national multicentre research studies.

Mr Gareth Stables is married to Rita and they have two daughters. They all enjoy keeping active by playing tennis, swimming and exercising regularly. Mr Stables was a competitive swimmer in the distant past, competing at national level.
