Professional profile:

Dr Richard Warren is a fully trained dermatologist listed on the General Medical Council specialist medical register. He works as a Consultant at the major dermatology centre in the North West, Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust  (SRFT) and holds the position of Senior Lecturer at The University of Manchester.

He is a full member of the British Association of Dermatologists having completed his training at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and SRFT. His major interests include the management of inflammatory skin disease (e.g. psoriasis, acne and eczema) and skin cancer and its surgical treatment. 

He is regularly invited to speak around the world on inflammatory skin disease at national and international dermatology conferences.  His research interest is into the genetic basis of psoriasis and new and emerging treatments for this condition for which he has received both national and international awards. He regularly publishes on these topics in the European and American Literature

Richard is a keen teacher and education forms a key part of his role at the University. Alongside this he sits on a national committee related to the use of “biologicals” ( a new form of treatment for psoriasis) and is involved in the production of national guidelines related to the treatment of psoriasis. 

Personal profile:

Richard tries to balance his busy work schedule with family life. He is married to Natalie and they have two young boys, Ben and Sam, and a dog called Meg! He has a keen interest in sport and tries to keep fit when he can.

Could this be then end for Psoriasis?

Dr Warren has led a study on a new therapy called Ustekinumab, which is proving to be very effective in treating psoriasis. The study was carried out by the University of Manchester and Salford Royal Hospital and it showed that half the patients tested had seen a 75% improvement in their condition after three months

Is too much sun bad for you? Not always

Dr Richard Warren, Consultant Dermatologist at Spire Cheshire Hospital recently featured in an article in the Independent. The article suggests that sun exposure for many people may have beneficial health effects, and therefore also question the widespread advice that sun exposure should avoided.
