Acupuncture has been shown to increase endorphins in the brain and spinal cord thus giving pain relief and can be used to treat all musculo-skeletal conditions including:
- cervical spine and nerve root pain
- lumbar spine and nerve root pain
- plantar fascitis
- tennis elbow
- frozen shoulder
- osteoarthritis of any joint
Acupunture can be used as a stand alone treatment or in conjunction with other Physiotherapy intervention such as manual therapy.
The National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) has recently enclosed the use of acupuncture in the management of low back pain which has persisted for longer than 6 weeks, recommending up to 10 treatments in a 12 week period.
All Physiotherapists using acupuncture at Spire Cheshire Hospital have a post-graduate qualification in acupuncture and are members of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists. Sterile single use needles are used for all treatments and the Physiotherapists are able to provide patients with appropriate documentation to allow them to continue to donate blood.
If you have any queries regarding acupuncture please contact Allison Herrington in the Physiotherapy Department on 01925 215027.
