Dr Yousef is the clinical lead for heart failure, cardiomyopathies, and heart failure devices (biventricular pacemakers and defibrillators) at the University Hospital of Wales. He has implanted over 1,000 heart failure devices and is a European Society of Cardiology proctor for these procedures. He leads an active research group, has served as the UK Chief investigator of several International clinical trials, and was appointed as a National Institute of Social Care and Health Research (NISCHR) fellow in 2011. He has published >50 high impact medical papers and has contributed to several chapters in medical textbooks. Dr Yousef is approved by the Football Association for cardiac screening of elite athletes.
In his spare time, Zaheer has recently completed a major renovation of a Victorian property and is involved in several charities. He chairs the Heart Research, Wales charity which aims to promote education and research in Wales, and annually undertakes missions to Africa to help develop heart failure and pacing facilities in poorer countries (Pace4Life charity). He tries to be a father to his 2 children, and sadly, sporting activities these days are restricted to spectatorship and serving as a cardiologist for local football and rugby clubs.
