Background Information
Professional profile:

Diagnostic Imaging
I specialise in musculoskeletal imaging in general, and in imaging of sports injuries and chronic overuse injuries in particular. At the Cambridge Lea Hospital, I have access to state-of-the-art imaging facilities and in addition to reporting on plain films, I perform ultrasound, CT and MRI examinations in a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions.

Therapeutic Imaging
I also specialise in image-guided treatment of sports injuries and chronic overuse injuries. Using imaging techniques to guide injections ensures that the injected material reaches the intended target, increasing efficacy and potentially reducing the risk of complications. I perform ultrasound or fluoroscopic guided therapeutic injections of steroids, or of anaesthetic for diagnostic purposes. I also inject Hyaluronic acid agents or local anaesthetic into the hip for patients with osteoarthritis and again this is performed under  image guidance and under  local anaesthetic (avoiding the need for a general anaesthetic). In the shoulder specifically, I perform hydrodistension for frozen shoulder, and barbotage for calcific tendinitis, again under ultrasound guidance and local anaesthetic. All these procedures are performed on an outpatient basis avoiding an inpatient stay.

Personal profile:

I was appointed Consultant Radiologist at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge in 1997 where I specialise in Musculoskeletal Radiology and where I am the Lead Clinician for this service. I have written over 50 papers, virtually all in relation to musculoskeletal radiology and I review papers for a number of peer review radiological journals. I have a particular interest in computers and I recently acted as the Lead Clinician for the PACS project (Picture Archiving and Communication System) at Addenbrooke's Hospital. I have recently stood down having served terms as Clinical Director, and then Divisional Director, for the Radiology Department at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. I served in the Olympic Village and at Wimbledon during Summer 2012 Olympics investigating and treating Olympic athletes who presented with a wide variety of clinical musculoskeletal complaints.  I have 2 teenage children, and a cockapoo called Merlin who reminds everyone not to take themselves too seriously!
